The Workshop
How we decide what
gets published.
Every brand that appears on this platform has passed through the same rigorous, independent review — no shortcuts, no exceptions, no exceptions for anyone.

The Four Stages
Research & Evidence
We define what we are examining and gather evidence across the categories our Manual recognizes — what we directly observe, what the subject claims, what records show, what independent reporting has found, and what real people have experienced.
Claims Are Not Proof
We separate a subject’s own claims from independently supported facts, contact the subject for response, and look for evidence that challenges our emerging conclusion. A company statement is evidence of what the company said — not proof that the claim is true.
Recommendation Status
We weigh the evidence against a defined scope and assign a status — Recommended, Recommended With Considerations, Worth Exploring, or Not Currently Recommended. The scope of a recommendation never exceeds the scope of the evidence.
Publication & Record
We publish what we found, how we know it, and where the light still does not reach — disclosing relationships, stating limitations, and preserving a record so the work can be understood later.
How We Work
A simple look at the standards behind everything we publish.
We show what we found
We try to separate:
- what a company says
- what we directly observed
- what public records show
- what independent reporting finds
- and what people with firsthand experience have shared.
Different kinds of evidence tell us different things.
We do not ask one source to prove more than it can.
Every piece of evidence should have a name, a place, and a limit.
We do not force certainty
Sometimes the evidence is clear.
Sometimes it conflicts.
Sometimes important questions remain unanswered.
When that happens, we say so.
When the evidence does not resolve a conflict, neither will we.
And sometimes the most honest conclusion is: We do not know yet.
We are guides, not judges
We may evaluate:
- claims
- products
- services
- practices
- evidence
- and outcomes.
But we do not claim to pronounce the final moral worth of a person, company, or organization.
Our job is to uncover what can reasonably be known, explain it clearly, and help you discern for yourself.
We recommend carefully
When we find good fruit, we want to help others find it.
But our recommendation will never be broader than the evidence behind it.
A good product does not automatically make an entire company good.
One strong practice does not prove every practice is strong.
The scope of the recommendation shall never exceed the scope of the evidence.
We tell you what the recommendation means
We use clear and consistent recommendation statuses:
Recommended
The available evidence supports recommending it within the scope we reviewed.
Recommended With Considerations
We found genuine value, but there are important limitations or tradeoffs you should understand.
Worth Exploring
We found promising signs, but the evidence is still developing or the right choice depends heavily on the individual.
Not Currently Recommended
Based on what we know now, we are not prepared to recommend it.
Every status is temporary in the sense that things can change.
So can our conclusions.
We show the work behind the answer
For substantial reviews, we aim to show:
- what we examined
- why it is here
- what appears strong
- important considerations
- unresolved questions
- who it may serve
- who may need something different
- what evidence we used
- when we first reviewed it
- and when we last looked again.
The front shelf shows where to look. The full record shows why it belongs there.
We do not hide relationships
If money, products, access, partnerships, or other relationships could reasonably matter to your understanding of our work, we disclose them.
Our editorial conclusion must come first.
We recommend first because the fruit is worthy. Revenue may follow; it may never be the reason the fruit was found.
And before recommending something, we ask: Would we still recommend this if The Good Fruit earned nothing from it?
We treat people with dignity
We do not exist to shame.
When criticism is warranted, we will speak honestly.
When a company deserves an opportunity to respond, we will seek communication.
We do not soften material truth merely because it is uncomfortable.
We also do not intensify language merely to punish, provoke, or entertain.
Respect does not require silence. Honesty does not require cruelty.
We correct ourselves
We will make mistakes.
When we do, we will not pretend otherwise.
Meaningful errors should be corrected clearly.
Important changes should not be hidden.
Truth is not weakened by correction. Trust is strengthened by it.
We look again
That is why meaningful reviews should include:
- when we first examined something
- when we last examined it
- and its current status.
Products change.
Companies change.
People change.
We change too.
Fruit can change. So must our willingness to look again.
We use technology responsibly
We may use AI and other tools to assist with research, organization, drafting, coding, and analysis.
But tools do not carry responsibility.
We do.
A tool may assist the work. A tool cannot carry the responsibility.
AI-generated information is not treated as evidence merely because a machine produced it.
Our Promise
We will seek truth carefully.
We will explain what we found.
We will show what we know.
We will say what we do not know.
We will not hide material contradictions.
We will not sell our conclusions.
When we find good fruit, we will help others find it.
And when we are wrong, we will correct ourselves.
We do not ask for your trust. We accept the responsibility to earn it — and to keep earning it.

A Note on Independence
"No brand pays to be featured here. Ever."
We may earn affiliate commissions on some links — that is disclosed openly on every relevant page. But commission eligibility has no bearing on whether a brand is reviewed, approved, or published. A brand that earns us nothing but deserves recognition will always be featured over one that doesn't.
